President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have made a wide range of appointments and reappointments across state corporations, universities, tribunals and regulatory bodies, according to Gazette Notices published on January 16, 2026.
The notices show changes touching key financial institutions, higher education, the justice system, science and innovation agencies, revenue collection, trade regulation, regional development and environmental oversight, reflecting continued adjustments in leadership across government bodies.
President Ruto reappointed Hannah Waitherero Muriithi as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation for a further three-year term starting January 20, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 7 (1) (a) of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Act, 2012, I re-appoint Hannah Waitherero Muriithi to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation, for a period of three years, with effect from January 20, 2026,” the notice reads.
The President also renewed the term of Phillip Mong’ony as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the State Corporations Advisory Committee for three years from January 20, 2026.
In the same committee, Muyumba Simon Indimuli was reappointed as Secretary of the Board for a three-year term beginning January 30, 2026.
In the education sector, Ruto appointed Dr Eng John Kipngetich Mosonik as Chancellor of Rongo University for a five-year term effective January 16, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, I appoint John Kipngetich Mosonik (Dr) (Eng) to be the Chancellor of the Rongo University, for a period of five years, with effect from January 16, 2026,” the notice reads.
In the judiciary, Chief Justice Martha Koome designated four Magistrates’ Courts as Special Magistrates Courts to handle narcotics-related cases. The courts named are JKIA Magistrates’ Court, Kahawa Magistrates’ Court, Mombasa Magistrates’ Court and Busia Magistrates’ Court.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi made several appointments under the Science, Technology and Innovation Act, mainly focusing on selection panels for key boards.
Florence M’Mogi Olubayo was appointed Chairperson of the selection panel tasked with recruiting members of the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation Board. The panel includes Daniel Oliech, George Nyakundi, Stephen Ikikii, Wairimu Njage, Evans Mukoye and Benedict Mutua.
Mudavadi also appointed Amina Abubakar as Chairperson of the selection panel for the National Research Fund Board of Trustees. The panel members are Caroline Kiget, Seth Nyamweya Masese, Jona Wala (FCPA), Jane Mwangi, Mary Gikungu and James Kahindi.
For the Kenya National Innovation Agency Board, Shukri Baramadi was named Chairperson of the selection panel. The members are Sally Tanui, Janet Kung’u, Michael Kagika, Ehud Gachugu, James Mwaluma and Peninah Aloo-Oluoch.
At the National Treasury, Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi issued two separate notices. One mirrored the President’s decision by reappointing Hannah Waitherero Muriithi as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation.
In the second notice, Mbadi appointed Risper Olick as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Revenue Authority for a three-year term starting January 16, 2026.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (2) (e) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Risper Olick to be a Member of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Revenue Authority, for a period of three years, with effect from January 16, 2026,” the notice reads.
In the trade and industry sector, Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui appointed Nelson Ributhi Gaichuhie as Member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority for a three-year term beginning January 16, 2026.
Within the cooperative sector, Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya reappointed Melissa Ngania as a Member of the Board of the Financial Inclusion Fund for a further three years from January 20, 2026.
In regional development, Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe reappointed Benson Muema Kilonzo to the Board of the Coast Development Authority for a three-year term starting February 3, 2026.
In environmental oversight, Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa reappointed Winnie Tsuma as a Member of the National Environmental Tribunal for a three-year term effective February 8, 2026.
